Getting there
The cheapest way is the regional bus. The easiest is a taxi or a tour. Confirm the last bus back before you order a second coffee. Early evening is when people get stuck.
| Option | Time | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Regional bus | About 1 to 1.5 hours | From the highway stop across the airport bridge |
| Taxi / Uber | About 1 hour | Agree the fare or check the app |
| Tour | Day | Often combined with San Pancho |
Buses heading north to Sayulita and San Pancho leave from below the pedestrian bridge by the airport. Check the windscreen sign and ask the driver.
What to do
- Surf: the main beach has gentle waves good for lessons, with plenty of surf schools.
- Beaches: walk to Playa de los Muertos (Sayulita) or take a short ride to quieter beaches nearby.
- Town: the plaza, cafés and shops are the heart of the day.
- San Pancho: the next town north is quieter and makes a good add-on.

Water quality
Sayulita has had periods of poor water quality at the main beach after heavy rain. Check any local advisories and avoid swimming near the river mouth.
Tips
- It’s busy at weekends and in high season; go early.
- Parking is tight; the bus or a taxi is easier.
- The last buses back are in the early evening; confirm before you settle in.
